A Scary Welcome From "Spooky"

On October 31st, 2015, at approximately 10:05 a.m. PST, 1:05 p.m. EDT, asteroid 2015 TB145, or "Spooky," made its closest approach to Earth. Ironically looking like a "rotating skull," the asteroid whizzed by Earth at a distance of about 300,000 miles, or 1.3 times the distance of the moon's orbit. Do not fear, for NASA stresses that Spooky is not a threat to us and is safe! It is believed that the football stadium-sized asteroid is the core of a dead comet of some sort. While it may have been discovered only a few weeks ago, astronomers will continue to monitor Spooky as it makes its way back into the vast unknown lengths of the universe. What a freaky treat on Halloween!
