Solar flares are powerful energy explosions; bursts of radiation from the sun's atmosphere that can be the equivalent of 100-megaton hydrogen bombs! Solar flares are the release of stored magnetic energy from the sun's atmosphere and are not to be underestimated.

Discover X-Class Solar Flares
Within a 24-hour period, NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) spacecraft witnessed three solar flares erupt from the sun. These solar flares are not like those of any other. In fact, each of the three erupted were classified as "x-class," which are the strongest, most powerful kind of flares. The sun unleases several solar flares of different sizes and magnitiudes all the time. However, it's unusual for multiple x-class flares to be released in such a short period of time, making these triplet of solar flares not only unique, but very powerful.
The three x-class solar flares disovered on June 10-11, 2014 by SDO were witnessed at different times in a 24-hour period. Below are stills of those flares that were taken by SDO.
